Art at the Park: Plein Air 🎨🌿
Step outside and create at the Edelman Fossil Park & Museum of Rowan University on Saturday, October 25, at 10 am.
This family-friendly plein air painting event, organized by the South Jersey Artist Collective (SJAC), invites Explorers of all ages and skill levels to capture the beauty of the park’s gardens, quarry views, and surrounding landscape.
Today’s scenery of rolling hillsides, shimmering water, and the museum’s striking architecture sits atop a site that was once an ancient sea. While artists take inspiration from the living world around them, they’ll also be painting in a place shaped by the ocean and its incredible marine life millions of years ago.
Professional plein air artists will offer live demonstrations and share techniques for working outdoors. Visitors can stroll the grounds, watch artworks come to life, and even try their hand at sketching or painting with supplies provided on-site.
Whether you’re an experienced artist or picking up a brush for the first time, this event offers a joyful way to connect with art, nature, and history...all in one extraordinary setting.
This event is free and open to the public; no registration is needed. Please note this event does not include admission to the museum.
This program is proudly organized by the South Jersey Artist Collective (SJAC), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2019 to address the inequities in arts funding and representation in southern New Jersey. In a state where resources often flow north or across the bridge to Philadelphia, SJAC is dedicated to uplifting local artists through community-based events, exhibitions, and education.
