Citizen Science Sundays

Monthly • Check for Upcoming Dates

    1. Welcome to Citizen Science Sundays - a free, hands-on program where visitors of all ages can take part in real scientific research. Held one Sunday a month from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, before the museum halls open to the public, these sessions spotlight a unique citizen science project each week. Guests can explore new tools, contribute data, and connect with both local and global scientific efforts.

    2. UPCOMING EVENTS:

    3. February 2026:

    4. Backyard Bird Count

    5. Sunday, February 15th • 9am-10am

    6. Join us Valentine's Day weekend and participate in a special edition Citizen Science Sunday with the Great Backyard Bird Count! The most newbie-friendly bird census program out there, run by CornellLab, the Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual citizen science initiative to get data from around the world on bird populations. Bring your binoculars to Edelman Fossil Park and Museum and learn the best ways to count birds, how to identify them, and join a community of citizen scientists and bird watchers to appreciate the only living dinosaurs we have left a little better!

    7. Good vs Bad AI

    8. Sunday, February 22nd • 9am-10am

    9. Stay warm during Citizen Science Sunday this January by learning the difference between Generative and Traditional AI with guest speaker, Sarah Layton. Afterwards, we’ll explore a variety of at-home citizen science programs using fun games to train Traditional AI models for medicine, ecology, and evolutionary biology. Bring your own tablets and laptops to play these game-ified programs on your own, or join in playing one on the big screen together.
