Welcome to Citizen Science - a free, hands-on program where visitors of all ages can take part in real scientific research. These sessions spotlight a unique citizen science project each week. Guests can explore new tools, contribute data, and connect with both local and global scientific efforts.
April is Citizen Science Month, and we’ll be celebrating with special themed activities and expanded opportunities to get involved.
UPCOMING EVENTS:
Scistarter
Saturday, April 4th • 2 Sessions: 9am and 3pm
April is SciStarter’s Citizen Science Month and to mark America’s 250th birthday this year, they’re aiming to log 2.50 Million acts of science over these four weeks. Join us for this special edition of Citizen Science Saturday with an introduction to SciStarter, the place to be for citizen science opportunities of all kinds.
Ant Picnic
Sunday, April 12th • 2 Sessions: 9am and 3pm
Easter may be over, but ants are still on the hunt for a feast! Ant Picnic is a citizen science opportunity studying the food preferences of ants at different times of year in different places around the world. Look at our local ant species under a microscope and record what foods they seem to prefer.
Frog Watch
Sunday, April 19th • 2 Sessions: 9am and 3pm
Ever wonder who’s making those croaking and peeping sounds out by the pond? Edelman Fossil Park and Museum is now a proud chapter of FrogWatch USA; this Citizen Science Sunday we’ll be training you in how to identify and document frog and toad calls for conservation research.
Adopt a Pixel
Sunday, April 26th • 2 Sessions: 9am and 3pm
We all know what the Earth looks like from space, a near-perfect sphere of blue, green, and white. But scientists need to know what each of those specks of color really mean for the environment it represents. Enter: Adopt a Pixel! Through the GLOBE Observer app, take photos of the world around you and contribute to real science by tracking the Land Cover (the plants that make up our environment) in specific locations throughout the year.
