From Student to Founding Dean: A Lifelong Commitment to Earth Sciences

Dr. Kenneth Lacovara’s academic path began at Rowan University, where he earned his B.S. in Geography in 1984 - a formative experience that ignited his passion for understanding the planet’s past. He continued his studies at the University of Maryland, earning a master’s degree in physical geography, and later completed a Ph.D. in geology from the University of Delaware in 1998. In 2015, Dr. Lacovara returned to his alma mater to join the faculty as the Founding Dean of the School of Earth & Environment. In this role, he has worked to elevate Rowan’s leadership in the geosciences by blending rigorous academic research with public engagement and sustainability education. His career reflects a deep commitment to both scientific discovery and inspiring the next generation of Earth stewards.
