Expedition Voyager FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions about the Expedition Voyager Experience
Virtual Reality (VR) is an exciting technology, and it's natural to have questions! Here are some common FAQs about VR experiences like Expedition Voyager:
What is Virtual Reality (VR)?
VR is a technology that uses computer-generated environments to create a simulated experience. When you wear a VR headset, it blocks out the real world and immerses you in a digital one, making you feel like you're actually there.
How does the VR in Expedition Voyager work?
In Expedition Voyager, you'll wear special goggles (the VR headset) that show you a 3D world. You'll also use hand controllers that allow you to interact with this virtual environment – for example, to "scan" scientific samples. Our system is free-roaming, which means you're in a large, dedicated space, and when you walk around in the real world, your movement is tracked and translated into movement within the virtual Cretaceous period. This makes the experience much more immersive than seated VR.
Do you have an age or height requirement?
We do not have an age requirement, but for safety reasons guests must be at least 56 inches tall for this experience.
What will I see and do in the Expedition Voyager VR experience?
You'll be transported 66 million years back in time to the Cretaceous period, surrounded by awe-inspiring dinosaurs and lush prehistoric environments. Your mission is to collect vital scientific samples from these creatures and the environment using your hand controllers.
Is it scary?
While you'll be encountering large dinosaurs, the goal of Expedition Voyager is more adventurous and awe-inspiring than scary. However, the experience can feel very real, so if you have concerns about being startled, it's something to keep in mind.
Will I get motion sickness?
Motion sickness in VR, sometimes called "VR sickness," can occur when there's a mismatch between what your eyes see and what your body feels. Our free-roaming setup, where your movement in the real world matches your movement in the virtual world, is designed to minimize this. However, if you are prone to motion sickness, it's always good to be aware of the possibility. If you start to feel any discomfort, let our staff know immediately.
Is VR safe?
Yes, VR is safe when used properly. We have specific safety guidelines in place for Expedition Voyager, including the height requirement of 56 inches to ensure the equipment fits correctly and the experience is safe. Our staff will also provide instructions before you begin. It's important to follow these instructions and be mindful of your physical surroundings within the designated free-roam area.
Can I wear glasses with the VR headset?
Our VR headsets are designed to accommodate glasses, but it can depend on the size and shape of your frames. Our staff can assist you with fitting the headset comfortably. If your glasses are too large, you might need to remove them, but the visual clarity of the VR experience is usually adjustable.
How long does the experience last?
The Expedition Voyager VR experience lasts approximately 15 minutes.
How many people can participate at once?
Up to four people can experience Expedition Voyager together in the same virtual environment.
Why is there a height requirement?
The height requirement of at least 56 inches is in place for safety reasons. It ensures that the VR headset fits properly and comfortably, providing a clear and immersive visual experience while also ensuring the tracking systems can accurately follow your movements within the free-roam area.
How much does it cost?
The Expedition Voyager VR experience costs an additional $25 per person, added to your general admission ticket or membership reservation.
